A Case of Dentigerous Cyst of the Maxilla

Abstract
The dentigerous cyst is associated with the crown of a permanant tooth. They are composed of a connective tissue wall with a thin layer of stratified squamous epithelium lining the lumen. This cyst usually dose not have clinical significance, but
may be
infected, resulting in chronic inflammation. And this epithelium may be transformed into benign odontogenic tumors such as ameloblastoma and odontogenic adenomatoid tumor as well as into primarily malignant, non-odontogenic tumors such as
epidermoid
carcinoma and mucoepidermoid carcinoma. Therefore early diagnosis and proper treatment are very important. The authors have recently experienced a case of dentigerous cyst in the maxillary sinus.
The cyst was surgically enucleated through Caldwell-Luc operation.
